Class Content

The subject matter of classes is guided by an old and tested approach. Many (most) folks who have been exposed to Art training may be familiar with the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design/Composition. These are essentially the features of the course offered, though there is  some variation in how Glenda and Geoff each use the material.

The Elements of Art are the "tools" that any artist utilizes to make their work. Whatever their medium, they will be seeking to use LINE, SHAPE, TONE, COLOUR, FORM and TEXTURE, to create their pieces.

The Principles of Design are the "rules" that guide the deployment of the Elements in the chosen medium. There are many of these principles buit they include: UNITY, HARMONY, RHYTHM,CONTRAST, SCALE, PROPORTION, REPETITION and FOCUS.

Some will say that Rules have no place in the making of original/spontaneous art and, of course, there are innumerable examples of compelling, beautiful and original works that were made with no conscious application of rules. We contend that exposure to and practise of such concepts are very important to artistsic development and far better than waiting for divine random intervention for inspiration.
